# Questions, replies and internal notes

> How customers ask questions on the signing page, and how your team replies or talks privately.

Tally Sign University › [Negotiation](https://sign.gettally.io/university/negotiation)

Customers rarely sign a contract without asking something first. In Tally Sign they ask on the document itself, pinned to the paragraph they mean, and you answer in the same place. Everything is kept with the document and summarized on the signing certificate.

## The customer asks a question

On the signing page, the customer opens **Questions & changes**. The panel has two tabs: **Conversation** and **Versions**.

*The customer's view before anyone has written anything.*

1. The customer clicks a paragraph. A small toolbar appears with **Comment** and **Suggest edit**.
2. They choose **Comment**, type the question and send it.
3. The question appears in the conversation, marked with the section it's about.

*Selecting text first quotes it in the comment.*

*A marker in the margin shows that the paragraph has a comment.*

> **Note:** The customer can also write in the box at the bottom of the panel without picking a paragraph.

## Reply to the customer

You get an email for each new message. Open the document and choose the **Questions & changes** tab.

*Your side shows open changes at the top and the conversation below.*

1. Choose **Reply** under the customer's message.
2. Type your answer and send it. The customer gets an email and sees the reply on the signing page.

## Internal notes

Internal notes are for your team only. Customers never see them.

1. At the bottom of the tab, switch the composer from **Message customer** to **Internal note**. It turns yellow.
2. Write the note and send it.

*Only your team can see internal notes.*

*Replies and notes in one timeline. Notes are marked Internal.*

> **Why it matters:** Discussing terms next to the text avoids email threads that nobody can find at renewal time.

> **Note:** Anyone at your company can read the conversation and leave internal notes. Replying to the customer and deciding on changes needs a seat. See [Seats](https://sign.gettally.io/university/admin/seats).
